Save the Fire Truck is a collaborated community effort aimed at establishing a link to the city’s past and the history of the North Las Vegas Fire Department. The group behind the project plans on using the fire truck to educate and inspire. When complete, instead of being tied up in a museum, the unit will be an interactive display for the community; a tangible and touchable piece of history for children and adults to experience.
As a part of history, the fire truck went to work in 1941 as a front-line unit and served the North Las Vegas community for more than a decade. The truck raced to calls when the community grew from a township into an incorporated city and it was part of the fire department's growth, helping it develop from a volunteer organization into a career department in the mid-1950s. The charity poker tournament will help fund the restoration through a $50 buy-in. Players have the chance to win part of a $1000 total prize package and everyone will play a role in saving a part of history.
