We had screaming guitars, wild energy, and head thrashing with an intensity never seen at any musical event. The Life is Beautiful event produced three days of head-swinging rocking out, gluttony, and sleepless, yet invigorating nights. Flowing and glowing from the Ferris wheel outward, the fest gave us the Foo Fighters, with a nearly never-ending selection of songs that spanned two decades and every wild mood a human can feel. From The Colour and the Shape from 1997 to favorites from the Foo Fighter’s debut album, bass player Nate Mendel and guitarists Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear kept the crowd begging for more throughout the fest.
But now that Life is Beautiful is over, is life just a drag? Not with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series coming to Las Vegas from November 6-9 at the Strip Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The event is four days of bone crunching, knuckle busting excitement, so pack your sunglasses and earplugs, along with plenty of energy. As the NHRA advertises: “come early, stay late, and be prepared!”
The first rounds bring you Funny Car, Top Fuel, and Pro Stock - with 24 heats and 21 elimination rounds. Watching the qualifying rounds gives you a close up, in-your-face opportunity to feel the intensity of the pits, and predict how track and weather conditions may determine the ultimate winner. With the Lucas Oil competition, many times the races are so close, the winner comes down to which driver had the fastest reflexes and most precise strategies, rather than which car had the most explosive horsepower.
Move about in the stands throughout the four day mega-event to watch a race from a variety of vantage points, or get as close as 10 feet from the pits to marvel at these well-oiled teams “twirl the iron.” In fact, much of the pit action takes place as much as 30 minutes prior to a car screaming to a stop for service. For a front row, eagle-eye view, take your seats early.
If you want to feel the coursing of the engine flowing through your veins, check out the opportunity to watch a team test fire the engine. This happens early, as much as an hour prior to the race. Each drag race is different, and it makes sense to reconnoiter the track layout early, chat with other fans, and tune into the buzz happening all around. You will enjoy a thrilling weekend with non-stop opportunities to get you into the feel of drag racing.
