LAS VEGAS - Folk-rock band America will perform Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. inside The Club at Cannery Casino & Hotel. Incorporating vocal harmonies and acoustic guitar riffs into a blend of folk and rock that has captivated audiences worldwide, America has had nearly four decades of success and continues entertaining crowds with their classic hits.
America’s debut self-titled album was initially released without the track “A Horse With No Name” and enjoyed mild success. After performing the song at several festivals to positive audience feedback, the band rereleased the album adding the single and quickly became a household name. The album went platinum and “A Horse With No Name” shot to number one on the charts followed by the top 10 single, “I Need You.” The group struck gold again with the release of another top 10 hit, “Ventura Highway” from their sophomore album, “Homecoming” and earned a Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1972.
Throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, America continued to release hit singles including the number one track, “Sister Golden Hair,” and top 10 hits, “Tin Man,” “Lonely People,” and “You Can Do Magic.” In 2006, the band was inducted to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame before releasing their latest album “Here & Now,” a compilation of classic America songs and new tracks with guest musicians. Original members Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, along with new musicians, still perform between 100 and 150 concerts a year.
